Statement about the "new" MusicAmerica
The campaign to bring back MusicAmerica took an unusual turn when it
was recently reported that Ron Della Chiesa will host a show called
MusicAmerica one night a week on Plymouth radio station WPLM
beginning in January. The steering committee for Listeners for MusicAmerica,
after conferring with the Save MusicAmerica Trust and many Boston area jazz
and cabaret musicians, has issued the following statement:
"While we all welcome every effort to expand classic American music programming
on any radio station, we are united in our belief that this is not
the "solution" to WGBH's "problem." In the words of Cole Porter:
'It's the wrong time and the wrong place:' Saturday nights on WPLM is no substitute
for weekday afternoons on WGBH."
